Prague!

Prague in winter looked like a fairytale book- add that we were able to experience the Christmas markets and it was amazing! We stayed close to the Old Town Square to be in close walking distance to the big sites and tours. We were there in early January and it is very cold (especially for two Miami natives) but there is plenty of mulled wine and hot chocolate to warm you up.

Where to stay?

We stayed at Hotel Hastal Prague Old Town which was very walkable to the Astronomical Clock and Old Town Hall Tower. It is a charming smaller hotel that DOES have an elevator and a lot of charm. They had a great breakfast every morning in the hotels bar area. The staff was very friendly and pointed us in the right direction for meals and exploring the city. The nightly rate was under $100 US which we felt was a great value.

What to do?

I really recommend taking advantage of Sandemans free walking tours, not only here but in any city they are offered! We actually did three tours that Sandemans offers in Prague on this trip- they were all great and definitely worth the time.
  • The free walking tour meets in the Old Town Square where you will learn about the Astronomical Clock and leads you through the city seeing the Jewish Quarter and ending near the original city gate.
  • They offer a castle tour which is about $12 EURO per person- this was a long tour and it was very cold when we were there so it wasn't our favorite. However on a warmer day, the tour would have been great as you end with a beautiful view of the city!
  • The final tour we did with Sandemans was the beer tasting tour. Even if you are not a huge beer fan I 100% recommend doing this! It is such a great time and we were able to interact much more with other travelers on this tour as you are sitting down in local pubs all together. My husband and I made friends with a father and son from Australia and ended up sticking around after the tour to continue talking of our travels. There is something wonderful about meeting other tourist who share your passion for travel and hearing their favorite trips!
  • If you have time also go up to the top of the Old Town Tower- it is an amazing view especially in the winter!

Where to eat?

Food in Prague is very Eastern European so a lot of meat and potatoes. I am not a huge fan of eating meat every meal so this was not my most exciting city for food but we ate well never the less. I did order at one point a fried cheese (tasted like a fancy cheese stick) with a side of potatoes which was up my alley- potatoes and cheese.
